Most
Commonly Asked Questions about
the EpiLight Hair Removal System
Q:
What is the EpiLight Hair Removal System?
A: The EpiLight
Hair Removal System is a noninvasive procedure that utilizes an
intense light source to eliminate undesired hair from all parts
of the body. The EpiLight Hair Removal System efficiently
eliminates unwanted hair for a longer period of time than electrolysis,
plucking, waxing, or shaving, and may possibly eliminate it!
Q:
How does EpiLight remove hair?
A: EpiLight
uses pulsed light to remove hair. First, a cool gel is applied to
the skin, and a hand held treatment unit gently touches the skin.
In a flash, pulses of light safely penetrate the skin to heat the
root of the hair, causing it to fall out. The EpiLight procedure
disables hundreds of hair follicles simultaneously. When the gel
is removed, much of the hair is wiped off with it. The remaining
hair in the treated area falls out within a week or two.

Scattering of light during treatment
Epilight intense pulsed light safely penetrates
the skin and destroys target hairs. |
One month after treatment
Most of hair is destroyed and the remaining hair is thinner,
lighter, and/or damaged. |
Q:
Can all hair colors and parts of the body be treated?
A: The system's design allows
a customized treatment according to your hair color, texture, and
location on the body. EpiLight can remove all hair colors
from various parts of the body including the chin, upper lip, cheeks,
legs, arms, underarms, and back - as well as sensitive areas like
the nose, chest, and bikini line.
Q:
Can ingrown hairs be treated?
A: The EpiLight Hair
Removal System leaves you clear of ingrown hairs, and is particularly
effective in treating existing ingrown hairs.
Q:
What does the EpiLight treatment feel like?
A: When EpiLight's
pulse of light is delivered to the hair, you may feel a mild sting
or pinch similar to the snap of a rubber band. This sensation lasts
only a few seconds, and no local anesthesia or pain medication is
required. It is extremely less painful than waxing or electrolysis.
Q:
How many treatments are required?
A: It varies upon your particular
set of conditions, such as hair color and location on the body.
Approximately four treatments are necessary for the best results,
with each session usually lasting 10-30 minutes. Included in the
cost of your treatment is a scheduled program using specific set
intervals as determined by your physician. Any additional EpiLight
Hair Removal treatments will be discussed with you by your physician.
Q:
Is it safe?
A: The EpiLight Hair
Removal System has been approved by the FDA and no negative long-term
side effects have been found.
Q:
Are there any side effects at all?
A: You may experience some
short-term side effects. This may include slight reddening of the
skin or local swelling which goes away within a few days. In rare
instances there may be some blistering.
| |
Q:
Are there any restrictions on my activities after treatment?
A: You can return
to work the same day and resume all regular activities. You
should limit sun exposure and make sure to use a sun block
during the treatment period, which is a good idea at all times.
Sun tanning increases the concentration of melanin which competes
with the target area for the energy absorption from EpiLight. |
Q:
Who are candidates for treatment?
A: Most people can
be treated with EpiLight Hair Removal System, however,
check with your doctor. This may require a consultation visit.
You are not a good candidate if you are pregnant, use medications
to prohibit exposure to light, suffer from diabetes, or if
you feel you can not attend more than one treatment. |
|
Q:
What are hair removal alternatives and benefits of using the EpiLight
system?
A: Shaving,
waxing, and depilatory creams are all temporary methods that must
be repeated on a regular basis. Hair removal with EpiLight
offers longer lasting results. Electrolysis is a tedious, invasive,
and painful process that involves inserting a needle into each hair
follicle and delivering an electrical charge to destroy them one
at a time. Electrolysis often requires years of treatments at regular
intervals. With long lasting to permanent results, the EpiLight
Hair Removal System can remove as many hairs in one second as electrolysis
can remove in an hour. EpiLight non-invasively treats hundreds
of hair follicles simultaneously.

Q:
How is EpiLight different from lasers?
A: The patented technology used by EpiLight allows your
doctor to customize treatment specifically for your hair color,
texture, and body location. This flexible approach to treatment
cannot be achieved with any laser or noninvasive method currently
available. |
|
Q:
What is the preparation before a treatment session?
A: Do not pluck, tweeze,
wax, or bleach the area being treated for at least two weeks before
each appointment. Feel free to use scissors to trim the hair to
be treated. Shaving is fine as long as an eighth of an inch of hair
can be seen. Two weeks prior to your procedure, limit your sun exposure
and use a UVA/UVB protective sunscreen with a sun protection factor
of at least 15 during daylight hours.
Q:
Are there any diet restrictions prior to a treatment session?
A: Your diet is generally
unrelated to the treatments, except for Beta-Carotene, which may
interfere with the effectiveness of the laser. Beta-Carotene, found
in carrots, vitamin A supplements, squash, and other vegetables,
is deposited in the skin, producing a subtle orange or yellow color
in the skin. This pigment absorbs laser energy, preventing it from
reaching the hair follicle, and increasing the absorption of laser
energy in the skin. Beta carotene persists for months after ingestion.
Patients interested in the best results from laser hair removal
will benefit from discontinuing using all forms of beta carotene.
|
Q:
How permanent is the removal of hair?
A: Waxing, shaving,
plucking all produce hair removal which is temporary but lasers
produce more permanent results. While there are no guarantees
and the outcome can be variable, more treatments will lead
to greater degrees of permanent hair reduction.
|
Q:
Is the procedure guaranteed?
A: Similar to reputable
medical practices, ethical laser hair removal establishments do
not guarantee results. It is impossible to make promises to patients,
especially when results are contingent upon how many visits are
required and other variables.
Q:
Can the same services be found at a discount laser hair removal
clinic?
A: Established medical centers
with excellent reputations do not discount their fees. Just as patients
must rely upon the experience and expertise as the criteria in choosing
a medical practitioner, the same is true in choosing where to go
for laser hair removal. Laser hair removal is also an exacting science,
which requires individual attention and experience with a trained,
caring, professional staff.
