Our therapy uses intense pulses of light along with a photosensitizing agent in a two-part procedure to significantly improve pre-cancerous conditions, sun-damaged skin, and cystic acne. It also improves skin wrinkles, skin pigmentation, Rosacea, pore size, skin texture, Sebaceous Hyperplasia, and Actinic Keratoses. Photodynamic Therapy even potentially prevents the development of skin cancer.
Photodynamic Therapy with Levulan begins with the application of Levulan, a photosensitizing agent, which is then activated with IPL (intense pulsed light).
• First the medicine is applied
• Special eye goggles are worn and often an anesthetic topical cream is applied
• After one hour the PhotoFacial™ treatment with IPL (intense pulse light) begins
• While the treatment occurs, you may possibly feel stinging, tingling, or burning of the facial lesions which should stop after treatment
• For the next 48 hours you will want to stay out of the sun and bright light
• The skin will be red with swelling and possible crusting for the following three to seven days
• There should be some discomfort but no significant pain
• After the seven days, you may have some residual redness that will subside after a few more days and can be covered with makeup
