Treating Excessive Underarm Sweating with Ulthera
Called axillary hyperhidrosis, excessive underarm sweating, can take over your life; hurting your self-confidence, damaging your wardrobe and even affecting your social life. Ulthera treatment offers hope to people who are looking to take control of this frustrating condition.*
Ulthera works to stop excessive sweating by targeting the overactive sweat glands in the underarm using focused ultrasound energy. This energy is directed into the layer of skin where these glands reside, selectively destroying them and reducing their numbers, which in turn can provide a reduction in excessive sweating.*
During treatment, you will lie on a comfortable treatment table, and a numbing solution will be administered into your armpit. We then perform set of crisscross passes with the Ulthera head in the underarm area, completely targeting the sweat glands. Your procedure will take about one hour.
After the procedure, you can get right back to work or play, as there is no downtime associated with this treatment. There may be some tenderness and bruising in the treatment area lasting for a few days, but it should not interfere with your normal routine.*
Ulthera for excessive underarm sweating represents a technological advancement in treating axillary hyperhidrosis. As this is a new procedure, the duration of its effectiveness has not yet been established.

Frequently Asked Questions about Ultherapy™ for Underarm Sweating
Q. How does Ulthera for excessive underarm sweating work?
A. The Ulthera technology sends focused ultrasonic energy a few millimeters under the skin. This energy destroys the sweat glands it comes into contact with, which reduces sweating in the treated area.*
Q. What happens during the procedure?
A. The patient reclines on a treatment table, and the underarm area is gently injected with a numbing fluid. When the underarm is numb, the Ulthera treatment head is moved in a grid-like fashion, crisscrossing the underarm with a series of energy pulses. Once under way, the treatment takes about one hour.
Q. What happens after the procedure?
A. When the procedure is completed, you will be ready to get on with your busy day, as there is no downtime with Ulthera. Your underarm area may be tender, and there may be some bruising, but it shouldn’t keep you from normal activities.*
Q. Does the Ulthera treatment for excessive sweating hurt?
A. The procedure is a very well-tolerated procedure, and most patients describe it as one or two on a pain scale out of ten. During the procedure, the patient relaxes, talks with the staff, watches TV or listens to music. There may be some soreness and tenderness in the area after treatment, but this usually only lasts for a day or two.*
Q. What is the downtime with Ulthera for excessive sweating?
A. No downtime is required with this procedure — you’re free to get on with your day as soon as the treatment is completed.*
Q. Who is a good candidate for Ulthera for excessive sweating?
A. Anyone whose life is negatively affected by excessive, uncontrollable underarm perspiration is a good candidate. In most cases, we see patients who find their sweating frequently interferes with their life.
Q. If I plan to have it done shortly, what should I do in preparation?
A. If your treatment date is approaching, you should immediately stop taking any products that can thin the blood, including aspirin.
